The FDA Cracks Down on Stem Cell Clinics

September 14, 2017 By Dr. Jeremy Feldman

I have written on this topic many times.  The FDA is providing further muscle behind my warning that you should avoid “Stem Cell Clinics”.  In a landmark statement, FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said the agency “will not allow deceitful actors to take advantage of vulnerable patients by purporting to have treatments or cures for serious diseases without any proof that they actually work”.  Translated into plain English:  Don’t be scammed by the “Stem Cell Clinics”.  Not only are these bogus treatments not effective but they can be harmful.  Save your money, time, energy and hope.

If it sounds too good to be true then it’s probably not true.  We remain optimistic that in the future there will be a role for stem cell treatments for many diseases.  Progress will come through clinical research trials.  You will never have to pay to participate in a clinical research trial.  All reputable research trials will be registered with the Federal Government on clinicaltrials.gov.
